The Wisconsin State Fair is in full swing, and horticulturist extraordinaire Melinda Myers spends more time at the Wisconsin-centric celebration than most. The renowned gardener talks with Lake Effect’s Mitch Teich about what kind of gardening questions she expects to hear from this year’s fairgoers:

Milwaukee's Francophiles can begin celebrating Bastille Days early this year at the Avalon Theater with a screening of Jean-Pierre Jeunet's 2001 film Amélie on Wednesday, July 11th. "France has nurtured one of the world's most significant movie industries," says film critic Dave Luhrssen. "The country can lay claim to having invented motion pictures. It was the sight of the first commercial screening of a movie."
As a child, author Pamela Druckerman often envisioned adults as astronauts and scientists – people with highly-technical, labor-intensive careers and responsibilities. “Grownups had this kind of wisdom, insight and discernment, an ability to wrap their heads around social dynamics and conversations,” says Druckerman. “I guess I defined [adulthood] as anything vaguely confident that I was not able to do.”
Many cyclists would agree that training for the sport can be labor-intensive and time-consuming. Milwaukee cyclist Lindsey Kriete manages to balance rigorous cycling training alongside working a full-time job. Her next races will be alongside nearly 500 other cyclists during the Tour of America’s Dairyland.
Expungement is the ability to clear a criminal record or to seal it from public access without a court order. Simply put, it’s a way to be able to move on from a past conviction.
“The conviction is sort of treated as if it never happened when it is expunged,” says Joe Peterangelo, a senior researcher at the Wisconsin Policy Forum. “The file still exists, but it is not allowed for public access.”
